An organic thyme honey from Kalymnos has received its second international distinction at a global organic honey competition held in Italy, which features entries from producers around the world.
The beekeeping unit previously won a gold medal in 2018 and was awarded a silver medal in 2025, confirming its consistent presence in international quality competitions.
According to the head of the unit, the award recognizes the ongoing effort to produce high-quality honey with respect for consumers and local tradition. He stated that maintaining the quality of authentic Kalymnian honey remains a primary objective.
The brand name “KALYMNION” refers, as noted by the producer, to historical accounts by the ancient geographer Strabo, who had mentioned the honey of Kalymnos for its quality.
The business continues as a third-generation family beekeeping operation.
