The signing of the Declaration of Intent between DEPA Commerce and Ukraine’s Naftogaz marks a significant step forward for both regional and European energy security.
Under the agreement, the supply of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Ukraine is scheduled from December 2025 through March 2026 — a period of heightened demand due to winter conditions and ongoing attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure.
According to government sources, this cooperation strengthens the resilience of the regional energy system, ensuring reliable gas flows to Ukraine during a highly challenging time. It also reinforces Greece’s role as a key energy hub in Southeastern Europe, utilizing its strategic infrastructure and supporting supply through the Vertical Corridor.
Present at the signing ceremony, alongside Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Volodymyr Zelensky, were U.S. Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle, Minister of Energy Stavros Papastavrou, and Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis.
