SYRIZA-PS Calls for Participation in the Nationwide Strike and Demonstrations on May 13
SYRIZA–Progressive Alliance has announced its support for the nationwide strike declared by the Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY) for Wednesday, May 13, 2026, calling on workers to participate massively in the central strike rally in Athens at Klafthmonos Square at 10:30 a.m., as well as in mobilizations taking place across the country.
In its statement, the party strongly criticized the Mitsotakis government, arguing that after seven years in power, workers in both the public and private sectors are facing increasingly difficult living conditions due to rising costs and shrinking disposable income.
Special reference was made to public sector employees, with SYRIZA-PS expressing strong opposition to the proposed abolition of tenure in the public sector through constitutional revision. The party also criticized government policies concerning employee evaluations, understaffing in public services, the new disciplinary framework, and the refusal to restore the 13th and 14th salaries for public employees.
The party stressed that the response to the current situation lies in collective action and trade union organization, reiterating its commitment to supporting workers’ demands.
SYRIZA-PS also stated that it will continue fighting both in Parliament and in society for a public administration based on meritocracy, transparency, social accountability, and dignified working conditions for all.
