Strong Endorsement for Koumendouros – Sharp Criticism Toward Weaver
With the March 10 election approaching in Tarpon Springs, the political atmosphere has intensified. Panagiotis Koulias, former Mayor and current City Commissioner, has made a public and emphatic endorsement of VaCelia Koumendouros for City Commission Seat #2, calling her “the most qualified candidate” with the integrity, experience, and dedication needed to serve the city and its residents.
He clarified that his support is not based on her Greek heritage but rather on her fresh outlook and commitment to public service. Quoting a local resident, he emphasized: “Sometimes fresh eyes and a whole heart is far better than serving on a City Board and being schooled before a Q&A.”
Rejecting the “Experience First” Argument
The Commissioner criticized the prevailing idea that prior experience on advisory boards is essential for public office. He accused some current and past board members of being disengaged, barely speaking during meetings, and lacking transparency in their decision-making.
He argued that:
- Simply holding past positions does not equate to effective service.
- Being present and actively involved matters more than résumé bullet points.
- VaCelia Koumendouros brings genuine dedication, rather than political pretense.
He also noted that major infrastructure projects have already been planned for the next two years, meaning no candidate can significantly alter them. The real issues, he says, lie in oversight:
- Who will fight rate increases on water and sewer?
- Who will oppose unnecessary borrowing that burdens residents with debt?
- Who will defend the land development code and make sound decisions on zoning, density, and environmental matters?

Accusations Against Opponent Lori Rainaldi Weaver
The Commissioner targets Lori Rainaldi Weaver, Koumendouros’s political rival. He accuses Weaver and her husband of engaging in slander, political bullying, and intimidation tactics.
Key allegations include:
- Receiving a threatening message from Weaver after publicly endorsing her opponent. The message allegedly warned him to stop criticizing her or face political retaliation from her supporters.
- Being falsely accused on Facebook
- Claiming that the Weavers exhibit a pattern of arrogance, attempting to insert themselves into local politics despite having minimal history in the community.
He suggests that these actions reflect a disregard for the ethics and values of Tarpon Springs — a city with deep cultural roots and diversity, especially within its longstanding Greek American community.
Concerns Over Ethics and “Dirty Politics”
The Commissioner’s statement further asserts that:
- Weaver demonstrates recklessness and poor judgment in writing threats to a public figure.
- Her methods resemble “good old boy” politics, relying on intimidation and manipulation rather than transparency and policy.
- Her claims of having “supporters she can’t hold back” to sabotage opponents raise serious concerns about her temperament and motives.
He questions whether such tactics reflect someone fit to hold office and warns that her “mask has come off.”
A Call to Action – and a Warning
Mr Koulias makes a direct appeal to the voters of Tarpon Springs to stay engaged, seek the truth, and make their voices heard on March 10. He pledges to continue speaking out, warning that further political criticism is coming and that those who try to silence him or others will be held accountable.
In his words: “The citizens of Tarpon Springs are smart. They can gather information and form their own opinions.“
The campaign for Seat #2 has become a flashpoint of competing visions: one emphasizing transparency, conviction, and fresh leadership – the other accused of employing tactics at odds with community values. All eyes are now on the voters to decide.
