Free Admission at the Port
A scheduled music concert in Kalymnos is being relocated to the island’s port, behind the Port Authority building, after initially being planned for the Nikiforeio High School sports ground. Admission at the new venue will be free for everyone.
According to a statement issued by the Municipality of Kalymnos on Sunday, July 19, 2026, the decision was taken as a preventive measure to protect public safety following an official written notification from the organising company concerning a reported threatening phone call.
The information provided to the Municipality alleges that the caller referred to a possible criminal act if the concert were held at its originally scheduled venue.
The municipal administration clarified that it is neither an investigating nor a law-enforcement authority and is therefore not responsible for assessing the credibility or origin of the reported threat. However, it stressed that once it had been officially notified of a potential danger involving the safety of hundreds of people, it had a duty to take preventive action.
The venue was consequently changed to eliminate, as far as possible, any risk to residents or visitors attending the event.
The Municipality also made clear that its decision is unrelated to the claims raised in a recent extrajudicial notice and does not constitute acceptance of any allegation that the allocation of the original venue was unlawful. According to the statement, those matters will follow the appropriate institutional and legal procedures and will be considered by the competent authorities if necessary.
The Municipality of Kalymnos strongly condemned every form of threat, intimidation or attempt to interfere with lawful activity, stressing that disagreements in a democratic society must be resolved through dialogue, institutions and the application of the law.
The concert will go ahead at the port of Kalymnos, behind the Port Authority building, with free admission for residents and visitors.
