Tourism Office Renovations in Rhodes Under Scrutiny Following Kalymnos Times Reports
Renovation works at the Tourism Service building in Rhodes have come under official investigation, as authorities respond to reports published by Kalymnos Times on July 23 and 29, 2025, and to anonymous complaints concerning potential legal violations.
A preliminary investigation is currently underway into the construction activities at the historic building that houses the Tourism Service of Rhodes, following claims that the interventions were carried out without the necessary administrative approvals and without publication on the state transparency platform Diavgeia, in breach of Greek public procurement law (Law 4412/2016).
The Internal Affairs Division of the Hellenic Police has requested urgent clarification from the Ministry of Tourism, the National Transparency Authority, and the Municipality of Rhodes. The works were halted shortly after the complaints surfaced, and while urban planning officials later confirmed the existence of a small-scale permit, the investigation continues.
Authorities are not only examining whether proper permits were issued, but also whether the project assignment process was legal and transparent. The case raises broader concerns about accountability in public administration, especially when it involves projects funded by public resources.
