On November 9, 2025, the Municipality of Kalymnos officially received the completed project “Stabilisation, Restoration and Functional Upgrade of the Windmills of Chrysocheria,” a €1.2 million initiative carried out by the Ministry of Culture. The Ministry’s representative, Aikaterini Kontou, formally handed over the project to Municipal Councillor Stamatis Koutouzis, in the presence of the contractor, deputy mayors and archaeological officials.
The three traditional windmills—long abandoned—have now been fully restored and upgraded, emerging as a vibrant symbol of the island’s cultural heritage and historical identity. Mayor Ioannis Mastrokoukos described the day as a landmark for Kalymnos and expressed gratitude to the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, for her decisive support.
The Municipal Authority will complete the remaining minor works to deliver the monument entirely to residents and visitors. The restored windmills now serve as a cultural and aesthetic landmark, expected to boost both tourism and cultural development on the island.
