At a time when rising living costs are putting increasing pressure on households and social cohesion is being severely tested, the need for a serious and responsible opposition has become more urgent than ever. 

In her political statement, Angeliki S. Trikoili criticizes populism and backstage political maneuvering, arguing that the role of the opposition should be to function as a “laboratory of solutions” rather than a vehicle for political intrigue. 

According to Trikoili, SYRIZA-PS is focusing on evidence-based political proposals, presenting concrete and costed measures aimed at supporting society and easing financial pressure on citizens. 

Key proposals include:

A proposal to eliminate VAT on essential food products and medicines, along with reducing fuel taxes to the minimum level permitted by the European Union. 

The proposal also calls for stronger market controls and profit caps to combat excessive profiteering and protect consumers. 

Among the measures highlighted are the restoration of the 13th pension payment, the return of public-sector bonuses, and the reactivation of wage seniority increases. 

Special emphasis is placed on the housing crisis, with proposals for public social housing policies and stronger protection of primary residences. 

The statement concludes with a proposal to tax excess profits in the energy, banking, and refinery sectors, aiming to restore social fairness and reduce inequality. 

Trikoili stresses that Greek society does not need more political “noise” or communication tactics, but practical policies with measurable results that improve everyday life, especially for island communities and regional areas. 

She concludes by stating that the opposition must stand firmly against rising costs, confront powerful interests, and gradually build a progressive path of hope and social justice for Greece.
