World Diabetes Day: Kalymnos Lit Up in Blue on 14 November
Kalymnos joined the global observance of World Diabetes Day on 14 November, a date marking the birthday of Frederick Banting, whose pioneering work with Charles Best led to the discovery of insulin. The annual initiative aimed to raise awareness of diabetes as a major public health challenge and to promote better prevention, early diagnosis, and effective management of the disease.
Demonstrating its commitment to public health, the Municipality of Kalymnos hosted an information and awareness event at the Municipal Market tomorrow, Friday 14 November. The programme included a series of activities organised in collaboration with four primary schools of the island, engaging students and residents alike.
As part of the worldwide campaign, the Town Hall was illuminated in blue—the international symbol of diabetes—on Thursday and Friday, sending a clear message that the condition affects the entire community and requires collective attention.
