Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas has called on the Minister of National Economy and Finance to allocate €173.86 million annually over the next four years to fund public-interest ferry routes serving the islands of the Dodecanese and the Cyclades.
The request aligns with the new maritime transport plan proposed by the Ministry of Shipping, which includes combined transport options: linking islands with international airports (Rhodes, Kos, Santorini, Mykonos) to smaller islands through ferry routes, as well as establishing a major high-speed connection between the Dodecanese and the Cyclades.
Konsolas stresses that this framework will boost the economic, tourism and social development of smaller islands and has already created strong expectations among local communities. He asks the Ministry of Finance to approve and fund the proposal for an annual budget of €173.86 million for these public-interest ferry services.
