Emergency Funding Secured for Storm Damage Recovery
Kalymnos has secured emergency funding of €500,000 to restore damages caused by recent severe weather events, following coordinated efforts and continuous interventions by the municipal authorities.
According to an official statement issued by the Municipality of Kalymnos, the funding approval comes as a direct result of intensive communication with government officials and the immediate response undertaken after the island was hit by extreme weather conditions.
Mayor Giannis Mastrokoukos maintained ongoing contact with the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection and Deputy Minister Kostas Katsafados, highlighting the scale of the damages and the urgent need for financial assistance.
At the same time, municipal crews and services were deployed across the island, carrying out emergency restoration works, particularly in critical infrastructure and port facilities that suffered extensive damage.
Kalymnos was declared in a state of emergency, a measure that has since been extended through the end of November. In addition, a special committee of municipal technical services was established to document damages and accelerate recovery procedures.
The statement also acknowledges the contribution of Dodecanese MP Giannis Pappas, who supported the island’s request for government assistance.
Municipal officials stressed that efforts will continue to secure additional funding aimed at fully restoring damaged infrastructure, protecting the island from future natural disasters, and improving residents’ daily lives.
