Mozart Meets Casanova in Kalymnos
A distinctive musical performance entitled “Summer Seduction – Mozart meets Casanova: A Fantastic Story in Songs and Arias” took place on 9 August at 8:30 p.m. at the “Katerina Klonari” Open-Air Theatre of Chora, Kalymnos.
Blending Mozart’s musical genius with the legendary figure of Casanova, the international production unfolded as a fantastic story told through songs and operatic arias.
The evening featured soprano Tehmine Schaeffer and tenor Luca Lombardo, accompanied on piano by Vasilis Konstantinou. Amadeus K. will serve as the evening’s presenter.
The event was supported by Austria’s Federal Ministry of Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport, the Austrian Consulate in Rhodes, the Austrian Embassy in Athens and the Municipality of Kalymnos.
The open-air concert was free to attend, offering residents and visitors a memorable summer evening of opera under the Kalymnian sky.
Official Greetings and a Warm Audience Response
Before the musical performance began, greetings were delivered by Austria’s Deputy Ambassador Philip Wasserman, Austrian Vice-Consul in Rhodes Mary Moschi, Deputy Mayor for Culture Kalliopi Koutouzi and Mayor of Kalymnos Ioannis Mastrokoukos.
Mr Wasserman’s presence carried particular significance, as the Kalymnos concert was the only performance he attended as part of the 2026 Austro-Greek Music Summer, a programme of events held in various parts of Greece.
Also present were Deputy Mayor for Finance Ioannis Theofilidis, PASOK political representative Katerina Vourexaki, LEK President Kalliopi Kassara and Ioannis Patellis, former President of the “Ai Mousai” Cultural and Reading Society of Kalymnos.
Another highlight of the evening was the presenter’s lively interaction with the audience. During their conversation, he remarked that the Kalymnian public was exceptionally well informed about Mozart’s life and work.
It was a truly magical evening, with music, storytelling and the audience’s enthusiastic response creating a memorable atmosphere at the Open-Air Theatre of Chora. The performers made an excellent impression; members of the audience were pleased to see Luca Lombardo’s return, as he had performed in last year’s opera event. Kalymnos looks forward to welcoming them back next summer.
