ANEK Kalymnos has issued a public response to statements made by municipal councillor Ioannis Galouzis regarding the condition of the company and the vessel “Nissos Kalymnos.”
In the statement dated May 8, 2026, and signed by company president Dimitrios Maragkos, the administration accuses Mr. Galouzis of “using ANEK for cheap political opposition,” claiming that he prefers creating impressions rather than seeking responsible information from the company’s management.
According to the announcement, the current administration inherited the company in a severe financial crisis, with heavy debts, the vessel “Nissos Kalymnos” out of service, and employees unpaid for eleven months. The company states that it has since settled debts totaling €450,000 owed to employees and continues efforts to cover outstanding payments despite delays in state subsidies from the Ministry.
The statement also notes that Easter bonuses were paid in full and that the remaining unpaid salaries concern the March–April 2026 period. Management assures employees that full payment will be completed following the next Ministry disbursement.
ANEK concludes by expressing support for its employees and reaffirming the commitment of both the municipal authority and the company’s administration to preserve the ferry connection of Kalymnos “without noise, theatrics or political exploitation.”
