Memorial event for the “Petropolemos” to take place in Kalymnos on Palm Sunday
The Municipality of Kalymnos has announced the annual commemoration of the “Petropolemos,” which will be held on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., immediately after the Divine Liturgy, in the courtyard of the Church of Panagia Kecharitomeni in Chora.
His Eminence Metropolitan Paisios will attend the event and conduct a memorial service, while the keynote speech will be delivered by philologist Theofilos Tsoukalas.
The anniversary marks 91 years since the national-religious uprising of the people of Kalymnos in April 1935, which culminated in the killing of Manolis Kazonis and symbolizes resistance against Italian occupation.
The ceremony will include a minute of silence followed by the Greek National Anthem performed by the Municipal Philharmonic, honoring the memory of those who fought for freedom.
