On August 12, 2025, the Mayor of Milos, the Deputy Mayor for Sanitation, and fifteen employees of the Sanitation Department were arrested following an investigation supervised by the Prosecutor and inspections by Environmental Auditors.
Authorities report that the suspects allegedly disposed of municipal waste and rubble in an area outside the designated landfill, possibly in a stream, causing serious environmental pollution and degradation.
The Mayor was the first to be released, followed by thirteen employees. The Deputy Mayor for Sanitation and two employees were transferred to the Prosecutor’s Office of Syros by order of the Prosecutor, where, according to reports, they were not detained.
