Brief Announcement on the PEGDY Elections 2025
Colleagues,
the PEGDY elections on 4 December take place in a climate marked by scandals, corruption, and the political involvement of the ruling party in the OPEKEPE affair—mismanagement that has harmed farmers, livestock breeders, and the credibility of public institutions. At the same time, the agricultural sector is collapsing under lost EU subsidies, mishandled disease outbreaks, and a government that has undermined labour rights, transparency, and workplace conditions.
Within our own trade-union bodies, the situation is no better. The majority faction—aligned with ND and now joined by PASOK—operates as a governmental extension rather than an independent voice for agronomists.
In this difficult environment, strengthening the progressive and selfless Unitary Movement of Agronomists is crucial. We work consistently for the rights of public-sector agronomists and the wider rural community.
We call for broad participation to shift the balance of power in PEGDY and POGEDY, creating Boards that operate institutionally, transparently, and with real accountability to their members.
We stand with workers and demand:
- Reinstatement of the 13th and 14th salary.
- Wage increases aligned with inflation.
- A 7-hour/35-hour work schedule.
- Immediate recruitment to fill vacant posts.
- Abolition of the new disciplinary law and individualised evaluation.
- Timely overtime payment and improved compensation systems.
- Recognition of heavy and hazardous work status where applicable.
- Equal pay, safe workplaces, unified agronomic services.
- A collective labour agreement including allowances, legal protection, travel compensation, PPE, food vouchers, and support for colleagues’ families.
Only through active participation and unity can we defend our work, our wages, and our democratic rights.
