A special session was held in Kalymnos, with the main topic being the briefing by South Aegean Regional Governor Giorgos Hatzimarkos on major issues and infrastructure projects concerning the island.
The Governor began by announcing the historic reinstatement of the reduced VAT rate, highlighting it as a key milestone for Kalymnos. He presented a series of significant infrastructure initiatives, including:
- Waste management through PPP (with the tender process now entering the second phase),
- Port development, nearing final approval,
- Water supply system upgrades for the next 30–35 years, using solar (not wind) energy,
- Electric interconnection from Corinth to Kos and Kalymnos,
- Road resurfacing of local roads,
- Implementation of the Just Go Zero app to enhance recycling and quality of life.
Additionally, he announced:
- A study and funding plan for the Metropolitan Church of the Savior,
- Installation of road safety barriers in the Prionas area,
- A small flood protection dam in Kantouni,
- Public lighting on main provincial road routes.
Mr. Hatzimarkos emphasized that all major projects are underway and called for collaboration, patience, and trust in a process strictly governed by rules and laws.
