On September 11, 2025, Kalymnos had the honor of welcoming the Regional Governor of the South Aegean, Giorgos Hatzimarkos, whose presence on our island sent a strong message of support and development prospects.
With targeted interventions addressing key everyday issues, the Regional Governor announced:
- Extensive street lighting projects along major road axes (Pothia–Vathy, Armeos–Arginonta, Arginonta–Skalia), enhancing safety, aesthetics, and functionality across the island.
- Installation of safety barriers at Prionas, to improve road safety.
- Maintenance of the retention dam in Kantouni.
- Structural and architectural study for the restoration of the Holy Metropolitan Church — a monument that stands as a living symbol of Kalymnos.
- Asphalting of the Commercial Road and the Gaidourorachos–Panorama (Myrties) Road, as part of the three-year provincial road maintenance program.
