Municipality of Kalymnos Opens “Cultural Summer 2026” with a Special Tribute to Tradition in Telendos
With a special cultural tribute to tradition and island heritage, the Municipality of Kalymnos officially launched the events of “Cultural Summer 2026” in Telendos on Saturday, June 20.
The event, held under the central motto “At Every Sunset, Tradition Rises”, began at 8:00 p.m. and offered attendees an evening filled with music, dance, and authentic expressions of the local cultural identity. The evening was conceived and organized by Telendos educator Stathis Mastrokoukos.
Among those attending were the Mayor of Kalymnos, Ioannis Mastrokoukos, accompanied by his family, Deputy Mayor for Public Relations Kalliopi Koutouzi, and distinguished guests Spyros Stathoulis, Secretary General of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, and retired Admiral Ioannis Engolfopoulos, together with their spouses. The guests visited Kalymnos for the presentation of the new book by lawyer and international relations expert Georgios Noulas, entitled “The Ambiguity of International Court Decisions Regarding the Recognition of Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) and Continental Shelves in Island States,” which took place on June 19, 2026, at the Kalymnos Spiritual Center.
The musical part of the evening featured the ensemble of Father Michalis Koukouvas, while the dance group “Chorogenesis” of the Traditional Folklore Association presented traditional dances, immersing the audience in the rich cultural heritage of the Dodecanese islands.
The event highlighted culture as a unifying element among island communities, conveying the message that tradition remains vibrant and serves as a bridge between generations. Residents and visitors alike had the opportunity to participate in a celebration that combined culture, community involvement, and local identity.

As a preview, viewers can watch the greeting delivered by the Mayor of Kalymnos, during which he announced that, following an on-site inspection of the Port of Kalymnos by Secretary General of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum Spyros Stathoulis, funding of €1.8 million had been approved by the Ministry of Migration and Asylum for the removal of sunken vessels from the harbor. These vessels resulted from migration flows that affected the island in previous years.
