In a press conference held today at the ANEK offices, the company’s President, Dimitris Maragkos, expressed his justified frustration over what he described as an unfair and damaging complaint filed against him. He called for the restoration of his reputation within the local community, his family, and his patients through the withdrawal of the complaint.
Here is a look at the facts of the case.
On 17 November 2025, ANEK President Dimitris Maragkos appeared before the Court of First Instance of Kos for a preliminary examination, following a report submitted by Georgios Thanatsis and Ioannis Diamantis. The report referred to potential violations of Articles 259 (breach of duty) and 231 (harboring a criminal) of the Penal Code. Maragkos received a copy of the case file and a deadline to submit written clarifications by 28 November.
The report in question, originally filed in 2024, aimed—according to its content—to be connected with the trial of Michalis Lelekis, who had been accused of embezzlement at ANEK. Despite the severity of the allegations, Lelekis was acquitted in July 2025. Thanatsis and Diamantis served as witnesses in that trial. Moreover, at the time the complaint was filed, Mr. Dimitris Maragos was not President of the company.
Mr. Maragkos emphasized that he will not pursue legal action seeking compensation for moral harm from the complainants. However, he is requesting that they withdraw their accusations so that the matter may be closed and his reputation restored.
