On Friday, October 17, 2025, an event was held at the Kalymnos Cultural Center with the theme: “Demographics – Low Birth Rates – Infertility.” The event was attended by the President of the World Hippocratic Institute of Physicians and President of the Athens Medical Association, Mr. Georgios Patoulis, the Vice President, Mr. Konstantinos Pantas, the Secretary General, Mr. Antonios Polydoros, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Mr. Nikolaos Vrachnis, along with forty students from fifteen international universities and NKUA, as well as their professors.
We believe that the demographic issue is currently a major problem for our country and for all of Europe. Together, we must put pressure on the state to provide the necessary incentives so that the fertility rate, which currently stands at 1.3 in Greece, can increase to 2.1 in order to maintain a stable population.
The state must, as promised by the Prime Minister, provide free screening through the National Organization for Healthcare Services (EOPYY) for a test called Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) to women of reproductive age who wish to postpone starting a family. This test indicates their ovarian reserve and fertility level. With new egg-freezing techniques (vitrification), women can preserve their fertility and choose the most suitable time to have children. After the age of 35, women have already lost 80% of their ovarian reserve.
It is essential for the Greek family to have at least a third child. Otherwise, future generations will be significantly smaller than the previous ones, with negative consequences for the very existence of our homeland.
