Historic Leadership Transition in Lipsi
LIPSI, Greece – Municipal councillor Evangelia Laountou was elected as the new Mayor of Lipsi on Friday evening, following a special session of the Municipal Council convened to fill the vacancy left by the departure of former mayor Fotis Maggos.
The election took place in accordance with the established legal procedure after Mr. Maggos resigned from his municipal post to assume his new responsibilities as Secretary General for the Aegean and Island Policy.
Ms. Laountou secured a strong mandate from the council, receiving 11 votes in favor, while one ballot was cast blank, confirming broad support for her appointment.

A mathematician by profession and an active member of the local council, Ms. Laountou now takes charge of the municipality at a time when the island faces significant development and administrative challenges. Infrastructure projects, local growth initiatives, and the enhancement of public services are expected to remain high on the municipal agenda.
Her election marks a new chapter for the island’s local government, as she seeks to build upon the work of the previous administration while shaping her own vision for the future of Lipsi.
