The deadline for the purchase of illegally occupied public land has been extended until September 11, 2026, following a parliamentary intervention by Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas. He highlighted the specific difficulties faced by citizens in the region due to land registry issues and understaffed services, which made it hard to submit the necessary documentation.
Since 2018, Konsolas had been advocating for a new legal framework to allow the purchase of such lands under fair conditions that avoid rewarding recent land grabs and safeguard the interests of the state.
Law 5024/2023 introduced strict criteria for these purchases and, particularly for the Dodecanese—due to its unique history under Italian occupation—it offers a permanent and viable solution to longstanding property issues, while also generating expected revenue for the state.
