Just a few days before the start in Myrina, Lemnos, the Aegean Regatta once again confirms the love of sailors from Greece and abroad.
As the final preparations are underway, the number of boats registered for the international offshore sailing race—organized by the General Secretariat of the Aegean & Island Policy of the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, in cooperation with the Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation—has reached 50. This makes the Aegean Regatta the race with the highest participation in the Aegean Sea.
It also reaffirms its international character, with crews from Italy, Turkey, Russia, Bulgaria, and Cyprus taking part.
Speaking about the Regatta, the President of the Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation, Konstantinos Kalogeropoulos, stated:
“Much can be said about this great regatta that revitalizes the island sailing community. It is a unique race because it is organized by an emblematic ministry and the Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation. It is a regatta that does not simply cross the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean. Still, it sends timeless messages in many directions—messages of reconciliation and competition, resilience and persistence, knowledge and exploration.
One could say that if it didn’t exist, we would have to invent it. But it does exist, and we are delighted to present this year’s routes and welcome you on August 23 in Myrina, Lemnos, then on to Agios Efstratios, Plomari, and finally, on August 30, in Mytilene, Lesvos.”
The yachts are expected to begin arriving in Lemnos on Friday, as inspections and registrations start on Saturday, August 23. The Opening Ceremony will take place on Sunday evening. On Monday morning, the fleet will set sail for Agios Efstratios, then continue to Plomari, and finally to Mytilene, where the Closing Ceremony will be held on Saturday, August 30.
As every year, many cultural and artistic events are planned at the race’s stopovers, highlighting the unique cultural identity of the Aegean Sea and showcasing the customs and traditions of the islanders.
The Aegean Regatta 2025 is organized by the General Secretariat of the Aegean & Island Policy of the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, in cooperation with the Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation and the sailing clubs: A.S.I.A.TH. Rhodes, L.O.I.A.TH. Mytilene, N.O. Samos, N.O. Chios, PEKEB Chios, with the coordinating club for 2025 being the Mytilene Sailing Club.
It is co-organized by the Region of North Aegean, the Municipality of Lemnos, the Municipality of Agios Efstratios, and the Municipality of Mytilene, with the support of the Hellenic Coast Guard.
