The Municipality of Kalymnos, in collaboration with the Hellenic Thoracic Society and the General Hospital of Kalymnos, organized a free spirometry campaign targeting residents over 40, especially smokers and those with chronic respiratory issues.
Spirometry, a reliable diagnostic tool for conditions such as COPD, was conducted by specialized staff and volunteer pulmonologists from the island.
This initiative is part of a broader health and social policy plan, which includes upcoming actions like bone density testing and the repetition of a successful free mammography program, previously implemented with the Hellenic Cancer Society.
Mayor Giannis Mastrokoukos and Deputy Mayor for Health Dr. Giorgos Houllis emphasized that such actions are vital for early diagnosis, public health support, and ensuring all citizens have equal access to quality healthcare services without discrimination.
