The Dodecanese MP proposes continued fuel subsidies, simpler digital paperwork and compensation for catching invasive species.
Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas has proposed a new package of support for professional fishermen in a parliamentary intervention addressed to the Minister of Rural Development and Food. His proposals focus on fuel costs, fishing equipment, fleet modernisation and difficulties meeting digital reporting requirements.
According to his October 20, 2026 press release, Konsolas is asking the ministry to consider five additional measures:
- Continuing fishing fuel subsidies for as long as elevated fuel prices persist.
- Introducing subsidies for the purchase of nets used in coastal fishing.
- Funding fishing fleet renewal, using European and national resources, including the replacement of old vessel engines.
- Reviewing electronic dispatch note procedures, allowing fishermen’s accountants to issue the documents within 24 hours.
- Activating compensation arrangements for catching silver-cheeked toadfish and other non-native species in the Dodecanese.
Konsolas places particular emphasis on electronic dispatch notes. He argues that requiring fishermen to upload the documents themselves, in real time from their mobile phones, to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue’s platform creates difficulties for professionals with limited digital skills. He proposes examining whether their accountants could complete the process within 24 hours instead.
The MP also welcomes measures that, according to his announcement, have already been introduced. These include a fishing fuel subsidy of €0.40 per litre for September and October, alongside a doubling of support for April through August. The announcement specifies subsidies of €0.32 per litre for April and May, up from €0.16, and €0.24 per litre for June, July and August, up from €0.12.
He also refers to the activation of a funding programme covering damage to fishing nets caused by dolphins, seals, sea turtles and other protected species.
The additional proposals have been submitted for the ministry’s consideration, with the aim of supporting fishing activity and addressing practical problems faced by the sector.
