Nikitidis from Telendos: “The fight against the demographic crisis is not theoretical — it is the very battle for the future of our islands”
Accompanying the President of the Hellenic Republic, PASOK MP for the Dodecanese and former Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Giorgos Nikitidis, visited the remote island of Telendos on Thursday, September 11, where he attended the blessing ceremony for the start of the new school year.
For the first time in sixteen years, the Primary School of Telendos reopened — with a single pupil, young Savas. The Agiasmos ceremony powerfully highlighted the urgent need to address the demographic crisis.
Speaking with the school’s teacher and the young student, Mr. Nikitidis emphasized that the presence of children in schools on remote islands is an act of resistance against demographic decline, and a clear sign that the State must support every island family.
Following his visit, Mr. Nikitidis made the following statement:
“The image of Telendos today reminds us that the demographic battle is not just a matter of theory. It is the battle for the very future of our islands. PASOK has both the proposals and the will to support families, keep the Greek countryside alive, and give real prospects to our border islands. Wishing everyone a great school year!”
