Dodecanese MP of New Democracy, Ioannis (Giannis) Pappas, referred in Parliament to the progress of the construction of a new multi-purpose indoor sports facility in Patmos, during the discussion of a bill by the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
His intervention followed a recent joint statement by five ND MPs regarding the functioning of the state and the quality of democracy, with Pappas stressing the importance of institutional responsibility, transparency, and meaningful dialogue.
He placed particular emphasis on Article 87 of the bill, which concerns the Patmos project, describing it as the fulfillment of a long-standing demand of the local community that is now entering the implementation phase.
According to him, this development is the result of systematic work, cooperation with the local municipal authority, and coordination with relevant ministries, demonstrating that politics can deliver tangible results when there is planning and persistence.
The new indoor facility is expected to significantly boost amateur sports on the island, offering modern and safe infrastructure for young people, while also serving as a hub for social cohesion.
Pappas also highlighted the importance of balanced development for island regions, noting that targeted policies and concrete projects are necessary to improve citizens’ daily lives.
