Pappas Fires Back at Nikitiadis: “€45 Million Secured for Kos Hospital – Progress Comes Through Planning, Not Complaints”
Kos / Rhodes – Dodecanese MP Ioannis Pappas has responded sharply to PASOK MP Giorgos Nikitiadis, defending the government’s handling of major healthcare infrastructure projects in the islands and stressing that “projects move forward through planning, not through negativity and complaints.”
According to Pappas, the Prime Minister’s recent visit to the Dodecanese resulted in substantial developments rather than the repetition of previous promises. He highlighted the securing of €45 million in funding for the construction of the new Kos Hospital and the immediate launch of the tender process through TAIPED, describing the move as a decisive step from planning to implementation.
The MP noted that the hospital project has progressed steadily since 2020, including site selection, land allocation, official government commitments, completion of studies, regulatory approvals and, most recently, secured financing and tendering procedures.
Pappas also referred to the planned Radiotherapy Center in Rhodes, arguing that the upcoming tender process represents a major achievement for a long-standing regional demand and will provide significant relief to patients across the Dodecanese.
Criticizing PASOK’s stance, he argued that opposition criticism has not been accompanied by concrete, costed alternative proposals, but instead relies on rejection and skepticism toward government initiatives.
Concluding his statement, Pappas said that Dodecanese residents are capable of judging who works to deliver tangible results and who chooses to focus solely on criticism and negativity.
