Greek Ship “Oxygono” Among Gaza-Bound Vessels Intercepted by Israeli Navy – Athens Monitoring Developments
The Greek vessel Oxygono was among the ships participating in the “Global Sumud Flotilla,” which were intercepted by the Israeli Navy while en route to Gaza carrying humanitarian aid.
According to both international and Greek media reports, the interception reportedly occurred in international waters. No injuries were reported. The passengers — including 27 Greek nationals — were taken to the Israeli port of Ashdod, where deportation procedures are underway.
Greece’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the presence of Greek citizens onboard and stated that all are in good health. Diplomatic representatives from the Greek Embassy in Tel Aviv are on site to provide consular assistance.
In a joint declaration with Italy, Greece called for respect of international law and proposed an alternative safe route for the delivery of aid via the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem. However, the Greek government refrained from issuing a direct condemnation of the Israeli actions.
