Kalymnos District Governor Visits Constantinople – Participation in Akathist Hymn and Meeting with Ecumenical Patriarch
The District Governor of Kalymnos experienced moments of profound spiritual and historical significance during a recent visit to Constantinople.
He participated in the Akathist Hymn service at the Church of Panagia of Blachernae, a site of great importance for Orthodoxy and Hellenism, where the hymn “To You, the Champion Leader” was first chanted approximately 1,400 years ago (626 AD).
The service was led by His Grace Bishop Adrianos of Halicarnassus, in a deeply devotional atmosphere highlighting the enduring continuity of faith and tradition.
As part of the visit, the Governor also attended the Patriarchal Church of St. George at the Phanar, where he later had the honor of meeting His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
During the meeting, held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, greetings and meaningful exchanges took place. The Governor presented a commemorative plaque on behalf of the Kalymnos District, while the Ecumenical Patriarch offered a symbolic gift—a pair of cufflinks bearing the Patriarchate’s emblem.
The Governor also expressed his gratitude to Metropolitan Paisios for his contribution to organizing the visit.
The visit is considered particularly significant, highlighting the strong spiritual ties and the living continuity of Orthodox tradition.
