Fuel prices exceed €2 in the Dodecanese – Islanders reaching their limits
Fuel prices in the Dodecanese have once again surpassed the €2 per liter threshold, placing a heavy burden on residents across Rhodes, Kos, Kalymnos, and smaller islands in the region.
The rising cost of fuel is significantly impacting daily life, affecting transportation, work, and the cost of essential goods. Islanders are forced to pay considerably more for basic needs compared to mainland Greece, increasing pressure on both households and local businesses.
Katerina Gavala, Deputy Secretary for Island Policy of PASOK – Movement for Change, emphasized that island policy must be treated as a core priority rather than a symbolic reference.
She called for immediate action, including:
• Targeted support measures at fuel pumps tailored to island conditions
• Stricter market controls to prevent profiteering
• Acceleration of energy projects and interconnections to reduce living costs
“We are not asking for favors, but for fairness and respect,” she stated, warning that the patience of island communities is running out.
