Kalymnos and the entire Dodecanese island group have been placed under a Red Code mobilisation status from Monday, October 26, through Thursday, October 29, 2026, following a decision by Greece’s Secretary General for Civil Protection, Nikolaos Papaefstathiou, over a high risk of flooding.
The urgent decision follows the severe weather bulletin issued by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service on October 26 and an assessment by the Risk Assessment Committee of the Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.
Red Code activates the full mobilisation of the national civil protection mechanism, enabling the deployment of personnel, equipment and other resources. The aim is to ensure readiness, respond to emergencies and manage the potential consequences of severe weather.
Municipalities and regional authorities have been instructed to convene their civil protection operational coordination bodies immediately to review preparedness and flood response measures. This includes the Municipality of Kalymnos as part of the wider mobilisation across the Dodecanese.
The decision also covers:
- Evia, Phthiotis and Boeotia in Central Greece.
- The Sporades, Magnesia and Larissa in Thessaly.
- The entire Attica Region.
- The entire North Aegean Region.
The mobilisation framework also provides for short-term recovery, relief and support measures where needed to reduce the impact of any disaster.
