The Dodecanese MP is seeking two director-grade posts for general practitioners or internal medicine specialists, alongside an urgent cardiologist secondment.
A serious shortage affecting on-call coverage at Patmos Health Centre has been highlighted by Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas, who says a single available general practitioner is being asked to cover the rota while also serving the nearby island of Arkioi.
In his intervention to the Ministry of Health, Konsolas proposes advertising two director-grade positions for general practitioners or internal medicine specialists, arguing that this would improve the prospects of filling the posts. He also requests an immediate secondment to cover the vacant cardiology role.
According to his press release, dated October 19, 2026, the health centre’s cardiologist is on leave until shortly before Christmas and is expected to leave the post afterwards. The pediatrician is also absent on parental leave.
The statement further reports that, from October 19, no rural service doctor is available to participate in on-call duties, while an appointment to one of the two rural service posts remains pending. According to Konsolas, the radiologist and microbiologist do not participate in the on-call rota.
The MP stresses that expecting one doctor to cover every shift exceeds human endurance and calls for additional medical staff. The measures remain requests submitted to the ministry; the press release does not report a decision to implement them.
