Kalymnos at the Center of National Interest at the “ATTIKA GREEN EXPO” in Athens, May 28–31
The indoor stadium (Taekwondo venue) in Palaio Faliro, which hosted the “ATTIKA GREEN EXPO,” was literally flooded with Kalymnos, as our island was the honored Municipality of the event. The Kalymnos Pavilion received the highest praise and reviews from national media outlets.
The Mayor of Kalymnos, Yiannis Mastrokoukos, received the Honored Municipality Award from the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Theodoros Livanios, who praised Kalymnos’ presence at the exhibition, stating that the island was the true star of the event.
It was a unique four-day event during which the Mayor and officials of the Municipal Authority (Kalliopi Koutouzi – Vogelzang and Vasilis Mousellis) were at the center of attention of thousands of visitors, business and tourism representatives, and government officials who visited the exhibition and the one-of-a-kind Kalymnos Pavilion.
Throughout the four days of the exhibition, it was visited by thousands of people, entrepreneurs from across Greece, and each day, 3,000 students from local schools visited the Kalymnos Pavilion.
Mayor Yiannis Mastrokoukos participated as a keynote speaker in three thematic panels alongside top government and local administration officials, addressing important issues that highlighted Kalymnos’ qualitative advantages across various sectors:
- “Tourism and Green Development: Environmental Protection and Rising Tourist Demand”
- “Local Government: Primary Healthcare and First Aid”
- “International Cultural Festivals & Tourism Development”
Additionally, the Deputy Mayor of Tourism, Diaspora Affairs and International Relations, Kalliopi Koutouzi – Vogelzang, spoke on two of the event’s panels on the topics:
- “Religious Tourism: Places of Worship & Economic Development”
- “Tourism Development and Ferry Connectivity: Benefits and Challenges”
The contribution of the Kalymnian Union of Attica was unique and decisive for Kalymnos’ successful presence, while the dance groups that performed traditional dances from the island captivated all with their presentation.
It was a four-day event that left a lasting impression on everyone, and Kalymnos—the “grande dame” of the event—showed that it is present everywhere, with optimism, outward vision, and faith that it is a blessed land with a beautiful people who deserve the very best.
