The island of Kalymnos celebrated with pride the 77th anniversary of the Union of the Dodecanese with Greece, marking one of the most important historical milestones for the region.
The celebrations began in the morning with an official doxology at the Metropolitan Church of Sotiros Christou, attended by local authorities, representatives of the armed forces, organizations and citizens.
This was followed by a memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial, honoring those who fought for the freedom of the Dodecanese and their union with Greece.
The highlight of the day was the student and military parade held along the coastal road of Pothia. Students from local schools, cultural associations and military units marched proudly in front of officials and a large crowd gathered to watch the celebrations.
Residents and visitors filled the streets of the town, applauding the participants and commemorating the historic anniversary with a strong sense of national pride.
March 7, 1948 marks the official incorporation of the Dodecanese islands into Greece, ending decades of foreign rule and fulfilling the long-standing aspirations of the islanders.
