The International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) published initial findings on climbing-anchor corrosion in Kalymnos on 16 October.
Four anchors examined met 316L stainless-steel specifications. However, stress corrosion cracking (SCC) was confirmed, with its precise type still under investigation.
Research continues in cooperation with stakeholders including the Municipality of Kalymnos. The UIAA stresses the importance of inspecting anchors and checking which materials were used when routes were rebolted. Its full report is currently scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
