Dispute over indoor sports hall – Region calls for “no half-truths”
A dispute has emerged in Kalymnos over the construction of an indoor sports facility, following public remarks by Regional Councilor Mikes Zirounis.
In an official press release, the Kalymnos District Office accuses Zirounis of publishing his question without including the response provided during the Regional Council session, arguing that this practice creates “misleading impressions.”
The Regional Authority emphasizes that it fully acknowledges the need for modern sports infrastructure on the island and highlights its ongoing support for sports-related projects, even beyond its formal responsibilities.
However, it stresses that projects cannot move forward without proper studies, permits, and mature project proposals. According to the statement, no funding can be approved without a complete submission from the competent authority, describing the councilor’s question as “premature.”
The statement concludes that once a complete and mature study is submitted, the Region will examine the request with seriousness and a positive approach, while urging all parties to act responsibly and transparently toward citizens.
