Customers are urged to arrange repayment promptly, as the utility outlines consequences for overdue bills and missed instalments.
The Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Kalymnos (DEYA Kalymnos) is urging customers with overdue debts to arrange repayment immediately, warning of substantial additional charges and referral to Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).
In its announcement, the utility cites the new Local Government Code, Law 5314/2026, stating that the collection framework is mandatory rather than a matter of discretion.
According to the utility, debts remaining unpaid and outside a repayment arrangement for more than six months after their due date are subject to a penalty equal to 50% of the total debt. It states that, after that period, the debt and penalty are referred to AADE for enforced collection, potentially involving bank account freezes and asset seizures.
The announcement also refers to an additional 20% charge described as an assessment expense when collection takes place through the tax authorities.
Customers already paying through an instalment arrangement are warned that missing two consecutive instalments and/or failing to pay current bills will result in cancellation of the arrangement. The utility says the remaining balance, together with the 50% penalty, will then be referred to AADE without further notice.
DEYA Kalymnos is asking customers with outstanding debts to visit its offices promptly to arrange repayment under its current rules.
