Kos: Solution underway for microbiological tests, says Medical Association

Developments regarding the issue of microbiological tests in Kos were announced by the Medical Association of Kos, stating that conditions have now been established for the reinstatement of microbiologists’ contracts with the National Organization for Healthcare Services Provision (EOPYY).
In an official press release, the Association noted that it has been working “quietly, responsibly and methodically” for months in order to resolve the impasse and ensure uninterrupted access for citizens to quality healthcare services.
The primary goal, as emphasized, was to secure a sustainable solution that guarantees both citizens’ access without additional financial burden and viable working conditions for diagnostic laboratories.
According to the statement, the groundwork has now been laid for the restoration of contracts between microbiologists and EOPYY, while stressing that the stability of this development depends on the full implementation of the agreed terms.
The Association clarified that the solution “has already been set in motion” and is the result of persistent negotiations and well-documented efforts over several months.
Special reference was made to the role of microbiologists, described as a “key pillar of Primary Healthcare,” while criticism was directed at those who targeted the sector for refusing to operate under unsustainable conditions.
The statement also criticizes “late-stage interventions,” noting that attempts to present the outcome as a result of last-minute pressure overlook the collective effort that preceded it.
Concluding, the Medical Association stressed that the citizens of Kos need stability, reliability, and meaningful solutions that safeguard public health both now and in the future.
