Manos Konsolas Calls for Year-Round Operation of Leros Port Entry-Exit Gate
Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas has called for the extension of the operating period of the entry-exit gate at the port of Leros from eight months to a full twelve-month operation through a parliamentary intervention addressed to four ministries.
According to the press release, the operation of the gate began in early May following the publication of the relevant Government Gazette decision on April 29, providing for an eight-month operating period.
Mr. Konsolas stressed that the gate serves not only ferry traffic and visitors arriving from Turkey, but also plays a key role in the development of maritime tourism in Leros. He noted that approximately 2,000 recreational boats remain on the island, while yacht and vessel traffic continues throughout the year.
The MP stated that a twelve-month operation could be implemented from 2027, provided that the competent ministries and services proceed with timely planning and preparation. He also emphasized the need to strengthen infrastructure, technical equipment, and staffing for passport control operations, particularly through the reinforcement of the Leros Police Department.
According to Mr. Konsolas, the year-round operation of the port gate would significantly boost maritime tourism as well as the island’s economic and social development.
