Manos Konsolas Pushes for Funding to Strengthen School Building in Kasos
With a parliamentary intervention addressed to the Ministers of Infrastructure and Education, Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas has highlighted the urgent need to fund critical structural reinforcement works for the building that houses the Kasos Junior High School and Senior High School Classes.
Mr. Konsolas stated that the school building has been found to have serious structural integrity issues, and given that Kasos is located in a seismically active area, immediate action is required to ensure the safety of students and teachers.
He emphasized that the Municipality of Heroic Island of Kasos is small and lacks the financial capacity to implement such a technically complex and costly project. However, the municipality has already completed the necessary technical assessment, confirmed the structural deficiencies, and finalized a reinforcement study. Additionally, an energy efficiency study is currently underway.
Manos Konsolas proposed that the structural reinforcement works be funded either through the Ministry of Infrastructure via the state-owned company KTYP S.A., the Ministry of Education, or another financing source. He noted that in a recent government bill, Public Investment Program resources were increased by €500 million, making such funding more feasible.
