Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas has raised in Parliament the issue of requesting a written justification or a reconsideration of a decision by the Coastal Shipping Council (SAS), which rejected the Municipality of Kasos’ unanimous proposal to amend the minimum vessel specifications for routes 38A and 38B linking Kasos–Karpathos–Sitia.
The municipal council proposed increasing the minimum vessel length from 20 to 25 meters, arguing that a 20-meter vessel often cannot operate in 5–6 Beaufort winds, a frequent condition in the area. The proposal aimed to improve safety, ensure uninterrupted connectivity, and better serve residents.
Konsolas says the rejection has caused frustration locally and calls for the decision to be formally justified in writing or re-examined, especially since similar specification changes have reportedly been made on other routes.
