In an official intervention addressed to the Minister of National Economy and Finance, Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas has raised the urgent need for the upgrade and operational strengthening of the Kalymnos Customs Office.
Mr. Konsolas highlights the strategic importance of the customs office for both public revenues and fuel supply services to vessels navigating the region.
He points out that due to a shortage of personnel, the customs office is unable to serve ships and manage fuel loading/unloading operations beyond a specific time in the day.
This situation, he explains, is being exploited by fuel supply companies in neighboring Turkey, leading to revenue loss and reinforcing an image of inadequate service capacity in Kalymnos.
Konsolas calls for the immediate staffing of the Kalymnos Customs Office, particularly during the tourist season, to ensure three operational shifts daily and extend working hours beyond 10 p.m.. He also stresses the need to reinforce the afternoon shift, so that fuel supply documents can be issued on the same day, avoiding delays for vessels.
