The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Regions, Manos Konsolas, submitted a comprehensive proposal outlining the agenda for upcoming sessions of the Subcommittee on Mountainous Areas, aiming at the revitalization of mountainous regions.
Key priorities include integrated planning and institutional strengthening, the creation of a Mountain Fund, enhanced representation, addressing demographic decline and energy poverty, promoting digital transition and reducing the digital divide, developing a new civil protection and search-and-rescue model, boosting alternative tourism, and strengthening entrepreneurship through linking primary production with processing, tourism and services.
The Subcommittee has already achieved tangible results, such as increasing the residency-based scoring criteria for residents of mountainous and island municipalities, which became state law.
