Parliamentary Intervention by Manos Konsolas Regarding the Patmos Health Center
Following an incident involving a passenger accident on a ship in Patmos — where, due to the lack of an internist/general practitioner at the island’s Health Center, the patient had to continue their journey to Athens — the Member of Parliament for the Dodecanese, Mr. Manos Konsolas, submitted a parliamentary intervention to the Minister of Health.
He is requesting the immediate reinforcement of the Patmos Health Center with an internist/general practitioner, as well as with other medical specialties, to ensure continuous emergency coverage and to fill all shifts and staffing gaps.
Mr. Konsolas refers to the specific incident, pointing out that the internist/general practitioner currently serving at the Patmos Health Center is on medical leave and there was no other doctor available to replace her.
As a result, on that particular day, there was no active medical emergency coverage by a general practitioner or internist at the Health Center, and the injured person had to reboard the ship and travel to Piraeus.
“This incident — combined with the fact that Patmos is an iconic and top tourist destination — makes it imperative to strengthen the Patmos Health Center with an internist/general practitioner, as well as other specialties, so that there is active emergency coverage and all shifts and gaps are fully staffed,” emphasized Manos Konsolas.
