Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas has submitted a parliamentary intervention to the Minister of Health, highlighting key issues regarding the implementation of the Artificial Kidney Unit project at Karpathos General Hospital.
Mr. Konsolas calls for the acceleration of study completion, a clear timeline for the tendering process, and the inclusion of necessary medical and nursing staff positions in the Ministry’s recruitment planning.
The project has already been included in the South Aegean Regional Program 2021–2027, with a budget of €620,000. The program consists of the creation of a 200-square-meter specialized facility within the hospital, the procurement of dialysis equipment, and the installation of advanced systems.
The MP raises two main questions: the current status of the studies and the timeline for issuing tender documents, as well as whether there are plans to announce staff recruitment necessary for the unit’s operation.
He emphasizes that the establishment of the Artificial Kidney Unit will significantly improve healthcare services in Karpathos and nearby Kasos, allowing patients to receive treatment locally instead of relocating to Rhodes or Athens.
Furthermore, the unit is expected to support health tourism by enabling patients requiring dialysis to visit Karpathos for their holidays, something that has not been feasible until now due to the lack of such infrastructure.
