Support and Development of Mountainous Areas Raised in Parliament – Proposal for the Creation of a Mountain Fund
At the initiative of Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas, the pilot program of the new Holistic Research and Innovation Center of CERTH (Centre for Research & Technology Hellas) was presented before the Parliamentary Subcommittee on Mountainous Areas, focusing on the development of mountainous regions.
The first pilot mountainous development program in Greece was designed with the Municipality of Lake Plastiras as a reference point. It constitutes a Special Development Program aimed at strengthening entrepreneurship through innovative activities.
In his address, Mr. Konsolas reiterated his proposal for the establishment of a Mountain Fund, which would finance projects and infrastructure in mountainous and remote areas through national and European resources.
He also outlined six key development proposals, including Local Development Plans with annual evaluation, targeted tax and investment incentives to support human capital, a new sustainable spatial planning framework, a holistic mountain management plan, and initiatives to promote local culture and the circular economy.
The session was attended by representatives of the government, local authorities, and the research community.
