Mayor of Kalymnos on Lena Zevgara Concert: “Music unites us”
The success of Lena Zevgara’s concert was highlighted by Mayor of Kalymnos Ioannis Mastrokoukos during a press conference held today at Kalymnos Town Hall.
The mayor referred to the criticism and reactions that had emerged ahead of the event, noting that the strong public turnout and the concert’s successful outcome demonstrated, in his words, that “music unties us.”
Addressing the financial aspect of the event, Mr Mastrokoukos stated that the concert cost approximately €19,500—nearly half the amount usually required for comparable events, according to the mayor—while placing no financial burden on the Municipality of Kalymnos.
He also emphasised the concert’s positive impact on the local economy. The large crowd gathered at the port boosted commercial activity and brought increased footfall to cafés, restaurants and other waterfront businesses.
According to the mayor, the result demonstrated that a major cultural event can provide entertainment for residents and visitors while also offering meaningful support to Kalymnos’ local market and business community.
