Yesterday, Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 12:00 PM, the Mayor of Kalymnos, Ioannis Mastrokoukos, held a press conference, accompanied by the President of the Municipal Port Fund of Kalymnos, Anastasios Trikoilis.
During the press conference, three main topics were discussed:
- Approval of a Planning Contract for the Construction of a Dock at the Port of Kalymnos: It was announced that the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy approved the signing of a Planning Contract between the Municipal Port Fund of Kalymnos and the South Aegean Region for the project “Construction of a dock for passenger and cargo vessels outside the port of Kalymnos.” This project, approved by the Port Development Planning Committee (ESAL), has a total budget of €11,945,000 and is funded by the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy through the NSRF (National Strategic Reference Framework) and the “TRANSPORTS 2021-2027” program.
- Enhancement of the Merchant Marine Academies of Kalymnos and Syros: The decision of the Governor of the South Aegean Region, Giorgos Chatzimarkos, was presented, regarding the inclusion of the action “Procurement of technical and educational equipment for the Merchant Marine Academies of Kalymnos and Syros.” The funding, amounting to €2,978,000, comes from the Regional Program “South Aegean 2021-2027.” Specifically, for the Kalymnos Merchant Marine Academy, the planned equipment includes a liquid cargo handling simulator for the Captain’s Academy and an engine room simulator, along with various laboratories and workshops for the education of students in the Engineering Academy.
- 5th Small Summer Conference on “Language & Public Image in the Digital Age” Organized by the Online Alumni Group of the International Summer University “Greek Language, Culture, and Media”, the conference took place in Kalymnos from August 22 to 25, 2024. The Mayor mentioned the statement of Athanasios Samaras, Assistant Professor at the University of Piraeus, who expressed praise and admiration for the island of Kalymnos following the successful completion of the conference.
